Adjusting to Your New Kitten

If you are thinking of getting a new kitten or have recently got one and introduced it into your household, there may be a few things that you may not have thought of that you should ideally take into account.
For example, if you are not going to be at home with the kitten very much and have to work or have other commitments that will keep you away from the house, you should get two kittens to ensure that your new pet doesn’t get bored and that they can play together and get the right amount of exercise chasing each other and other such reasons. Getting a single kitten when you are not planning to be in the home with it is cruel in some ways and your new kitten will grow to be a lonesome cat that may not interact with other animals and other members of the family as well as it should do.
New kittens need to stay in the home and not venture outside for many weeks when you first get them. A new kitten will easily get lost and will not have the right ideas about road safety to be left to deal with the outside world on its own and therefore when you leave the house or even leave the room that the kitten is in, you should ensure that all doors and windows are firmly shut as so not to lose the newcomer. No kitten should be allowed to venture outside until they have had all of their vaccinations and have been given authority by the Vet to say that it is fit and healthy.
It can take a few days and even a few weeks for the new kitten to become fully used to you as an owner as well as the rest of the family so the one thing that you will need to remember is that patience is definitely needed. At first the kitten will not know its own name and therefore will need to be taught such a thing as well as litter training and the areas in which he or she is and is not allowed to go within the house. When you first get the new kitten, try to keep the newcomer to one room only so that it can get used to its new surroundings over time and will not be overwhelmed by the concept of a large house with stairs to contend with. You should try and keep your new kitten away from any stairs until it has grown to a decent enough size to prevent for any accidents and injuries.
Where possible, it is always best to have your new kitten in one room alone and make sure that the litter tray and food are both in there alongside a bed
to make sure that he or she is comfortable and that they cannot make too much of a mess while litter training.
