On average, the time of the general state of non-sleeping accounts for 80% of the sleeping time. Namely: 1. Drowsing into the state of sleeping; 2. The slight state of starting falling asleep; 3. Entering into the state of a deep sleep; 4. The deep sleep is classified as Stage 1 to Stage 4 which has functions of recovery, elimination of stress reaction, enhancing properties and damaged tissue reparation; 5. If dogs oversleep for a long time, the time of their feeling tired will be lengthened correspondingly. On the other hand, it will fatigue the body.

Sleep for old dogs: Now we have known that “deep sleep” is an essential way to eliminate fatigue. However, the condition of old dogs is: as the body and functions drop, the natural sleep time will increase, seldom guarantee the high quality of sleep. If dogs can not enjoy deep sleep or regulate normal physiological activities such as metabolism, accompanied by impatience and impulsive reaction, it is not conducive to physical health.

1. The procedure may be very easy or extremely difficult. Well it depends what kind a cat you have. It is best to cut with the special tongs (you can get these from the nearest animal-shop), but can also be without. Principle is that the cats toe’s to be squeezed, you can see quite clearly on the inside part of the darker pink – this is the place where you should not cut. Cut off the tip of a sharp nail.

2. How the cat remains in place? This trick is that you put your cat in a large towel or linen in such a way that only a necessary arm is outside. Of course, leave out the head so your cat can get air. A couple of cutting regime may already be quite sufficient to continue next time. Because his already used to it.

3. However your cat can still make weird voices. But you will get used to it.

Reward your cat with something good, after cutting

Cut the nails if your cat is comfortable lap, turned himself and feels safety

It’s a proven fact little dogs have bad teeth. I have had three little dogs and they all have had bad teeth. Two of them were Maltese. The other one was a Papillon. My first Maltese had to have several of her teeth removed because of how bad they were. I decided to brush my Papillon’s teeth so the same wouldn’t happen to her. That didn’t even help. I went to a local pet store and found Dental Pads. They had a rinse but I didn’t see how that would help. I decided to go with the pads and give them a shot. If they didn’t work, then I wasted my money and I knew not to buy them again.

I introduced the Dental Pads to her slowly. I started with her front teeth. They had plaque on them and I wanted to see how well it worked. I tried to do it every other day but I did miss some days. Over a few weeks, I started to notice that the plaque was going away. Her front teeth didn’t look as bad as they did when I started. I still use this product. I buy them off the internet and get a 3 pack that contains 90 pads for 20 dollars. I think it’s a good investment. As long as I do it every other day, it helps clean her teeth. I recently started on my 9 month old Maltese who is beginning to get plaque too. Hopefully they’ll help her teeth to stay clean and not gather much plaque at all.

If you have a small dog and have the time to clean their teeth, I suggest buying them. You can introduce it slowly and make it fun for the dog so they like it. It’s better than them having to go in for surgery to get teeth pulled or clean.

We live in fifth floor and holding cat in apartment – black and jumpy house terror. One day it stopped. By accident early morning we left her in balcony and she decided to “visit” neighbours – definitely she dropped to first floor…

First my mistake was that I grabbed the cat and tried to drive to vet. With cat on hand!? When I was trying to find driver the cat find place to hide. IN CAR. Do you imagine? Two hours! It took two hours for us to scratch it out. Two hours! After flying from balcony…

So I understood – I had to go home and take basket. But it was too late. Remember – first of all, you have to assure that your cat would not move much. Take it and box it.

Second – keep the eye on cat. How it moves, how it urinate (with or without blood), how it breaths. Thats the questions that would ask you vet. You cannot say if there are some bones broked, but there are questions, you can answer.

I know, if your cat is pedigree, you would pay a lot of money for operation and medicine. But if your cat is simply outdoor pet? Or if you could not afford 2or 3 th.USD? What to do?

1. Find a box. Quite big that your pet could feel free but not so big that it would be possible to jump.

2. Let the cat out only to toilet and to eat. Not more. Less it moves better bones would heel.

3. Do not pay attention to cats cry – it would not like the closed box but it is neccesary. Do not pay attention!

You get a cute little puppy, you let it do anything it likes. he becomes spoilt and disobedient, and one day he will turn into a 20-70kg grown up dog.

It will get more and more dangerous as he could start knocking over people and there really is no way of stopping him.

what to do-

take no notice of him, if he gets excited, ignore him.

If he still decides to jump on you turn around with your back facing towards him.

Then turn around and tell him a common word, like ’sit’ or ‘down’

and if he does what you say and stops jumping, give him a treat. (not everytime as he will be expecting them)

Do this everytime, and try to be as strict as possible. only give him attention when he is below your level.

I know that sometimes you might want to have a play with your dog, but dogs don’t understand ’sometimes’ and in the long run it will be good for them. If you really want to play with him in some circumstances, then try allowing him to jump in a certain envirement like outside rather than inside.

It is in a dogs nature to jump, its a sign of love and compasion. they are not trying to be mean. They just don’t know what you like and don’t like.

The Sphynx cat breed developed in the late twentieth century. These cats are medium sized and usually weigh between 6 and 10 pounds fully grown. According to the Pet Planet website, the Sphynx cat breed has few health issues.

History

In 1978, Shirley Smith, a Siamese cat breeder from Ontario, Canada, found three hairless and homeless kittens. She sent two of these kittens to the Netherlands where Dr. Hugo Hernandez crossbred them with a white Devon Rex. The offspring developed into the Sphynx breed.

Identification

Sphynx cats have large eyes, large ears, wrinkled skin and no whiskers. These “hairless” cats have a thin, suede-like coat of hair that covers their bodies. The Sphynx breed has no determined color standards. The skin of Sphynx cats has the pigmentation their coats would have if they had fur.

Grooming

Owners need to bathe Sphynx cats once a week, because they do not have a coat of hair that soaks up the oil from their skin. Owners also need to clean the cat’s ears regularly.

Benefits

According to the Cats of Australia website, people who have cat allergies can sometimes tolerate female Sphynx cats.

Temperament

According to The Traditional Cat Association website, Sphynx cats are affectionate and people-oriented. They are also inquisitive and love to be the center of attention, according to the Cat Fancier’s Association website.

The cause

The cause of the outbreak was tainted pet food. This marked the first known human Salmonella cases linked to dry dog and cat food.

A CDC veterinary epidemiologist, Casey Barton Behravesh, told LiveScience, “This outbreak really raises concerns for us that dry pet foods might be an unrecognized source of illness, especially for children,” Why children? Their immune systems are not as robust as an adult’s. Also, in about half of the Salmonella cases, it was a child who fed the pet which lead to exposure.

Salmonella is a bacterium that causes fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramps. It is a common source of food poisoning in contaminated meats, and more recently in tomatoes and eggs. The bacteria are spread through contact with animal feces or consumption of food contaminated with feces. Most people recover from Salmonella infection without treatment, according to the CDC, but sometimes the illness can be fatal to the very old or very young.

The first cases

Back in 2006, the Pennsylvania Department of Health became aware of a small group of individuals infected with a specific strain of the bacteria known as Schwarzengrund.

About a year later, more cases turned up in the same area. But this time, Pennsylvania officials contacted the CDC. More help came from the Pennsylvania and Ohio Departments of Health and the Food and Drug administration. Soon, families affected by the outbreak and families who lived by those affected were interviewed. What the scientists found was that there was a common thread of pet ownership among households with Salmonella cases.

Since it’s widely known that pet food usually contains meat, and meat can carry Salmonella, the investigators turned to the families’ dog and cat foods for clues. While they found a variety of brands used, the lot numbers stamped on the bags traced the food back to a common manufacturing facility in Pennsylvania owned by Mars Petcare US.

Inspecting this facility, the investigators found Salmonella contamination in the flavoring room of the pet food plant, where the dry food was sprayed with flavor enhancers before being packaged. The company instituted a voluntary recall of more than 23,000 tons of pet food in 2007. When the outbreak continued in 2008, Mars Petcare US recalled all of its products and eventually shut down its Everson, Pennsylvania plant.

Don’t feed pets in the kitchen

Salmonella can spread from pet food to humans in several different ways. The most common is that the animals shed the bacteria in their feces for up to 3 months after their initial infection, even if the pets themselves don’t appear sick. Also, children might have also played with the pet food and then put their hands, or the food itself, in their mouths. However, the data collected during the family interviews seemed to tell a different story.

What was found was infections occurred primarily in those homes the family pet was fed in the kitchen. This raised the risk of infection about fourfold for those children under 2. The investigators reasoned that the Salmonella bacteria multiplied in dirty pet-food bowls making cross-contamination and infection more likely during their cleaning in the kitchen sink or dishwasher.

Although the Mars Petcare US plant remains closed, the possibility of Salmonella contamination in pet food persists. In the summer of 2010, Proctor & Gamble also issued a recall of specialized Iams and Eukanuba dog food due to concerns over possible Salmonella contamination in one of their plants. Fortunately, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the brands.

What can be done?

The researchers recommend hand-washing after coming in contact with pets or pet food. Pet food bowls and feeding areas should be regularly disinfected and food bowls should be washed outside, not in sinks used for human hygiene or food preparation. Also, consider purchasing pet food from a company that manufactures fresh food that has never been recalled. One manufacture with a great reputation is Life’s Abundance pet food, based in Florida. At their website they have a short video explaining their pet food manufacturing process.

ISTANBUL — Cats are so respected and loved in Istanbul that even President Obama got in on the act. On a visit to Turkey last year, he took time out to pet a tabby cat at the former Byzantine church of Haghia Sophia while the Turkish Prime Minister watched smiling. The lucky feline was one of a half dozen who call the ancient site home.

It’s hard to miss the many stray cats hanging out in the old imperial capital of Istanbul. They basically roam wherever they choose whether it be the mosques or nearby universities. And they aren’t exactly hard up. People regularly leave food and water for them and Facebook even helps to collect supplies for them.

The high regard for stray cats in Istanbul and throughout the rest of Turkey has its origins in two concepts. The Muslim belief in tolerance, and Western ideas about animal rights which have taken root.

Turkey adopted an animal protection law in 2004, and the official state policy is to catch, neuter and release or find a home for street animals. However, money to run such projects is tight, and some municipalities still don’t balk at poisoning stray animals, mostly dogs.

Here stray dogs are not looked upon as kindly as cats. They are viewed as bothersome and more of a threat to public health than cats, and even Islamic tradition works against them. While it preaches tolerance for all creatures, it calls them unclean. And in the ultimate upset for animal lovers, in 1910, Istanbul officials deposited not mere thousands, but tens of thousands of stray dogs on an island in the Sea of Marmara, and left them to starve to death.

Because of their link to Islam cats are almost considered holy in Turkey, where most of the people are Muslim. A common saying is: “If you’ve killed a cat, you need to build a mosque to be forgiven by God.”

A legendary story tells of a cat which foiled a poisonous snake that had threatened the Prophet Muhammad. Another story states that Muhammad’s cat was sleeping on his vest one day. Rather than awaken the cat, he cut off the part of the vest that the animal lay on and wore it like that.

In many areas cats are accepted as an important of the community. One tourist hostel in Istanbul goes by the name the Stray Cat. Then there is the Kaktus Cafe in Istanbul’s Cihangir district, where cats have free reign. They sit right beside the customers or nap on chairs. Their pictures decorate dishes and tablecloths.

Yes, cats have assimilated themselves into the very culture, but they’re not always seen as a welcome distraction. If you’re staying on the ground floor and leave your window open, you can arrive home to find a cat sitting serenely in the room looking at you as if you are the outsider. Who knows? Maybe in the grand scheme of things that is true of all the people here.
